Laundry Ministry Survey
Dear St. Andrew’s,
The Laundry Ministry is a collaboration between St. Andrew’s and Pine Street Baptist Outreach program. The ministry offers packets of soap, dryer sheets, and $3.75 in quarters to 20 unhoused clients twice a month. The actual laundry happens at the Laundromat behind the BP Station on Cary and Meadow Streets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. The Laundry Ministry is currently being run by two older members of the St. Andrew’s community—82 and 91! Judy Hubbell and I have been leading this ministry for almost ten years and have loved doing this work. Unfortunately, Judy is finding it harder to get around and would like to cut back on her participation, and that’s where you come in.
I would love to form two teams of 2-3 people to support the Laundry Ministry moving forward. The tasks are simple: you would show up at the laundromat one Wednesday a month to collect vouchers and hand out soap, quarters, and dryer sheets; and, the best part, you would get the chance to chat with people while they wash their clothes.
It has been such a rewarding ministry for me. It’s made me realize how blessed I am to have food, shelter, and clothing. These clients are like friends, some of whom I have known for years. I get to know them not as homeless persons, but as fellow human being struggling with life. And, I ask myself, what would Jesus do?
